From Your Heart That Started Mine

Today was mother's day and my daughter Annika wrote a poem to my Wife. It was so good that I asked her if I could share it and she said yes, so here it goes:

From Your Heart That Started Mine

by A. M. Garcia

The entire planet is a reflection of us.

You are the moon reflecting off the darkness,

and I am the stars shining because of your light.

You are the cake

and I am the slice that stems from such perfection.

You are the tree that stands through every season,

and I am the blades of grass that dance in your breeze.

You are the ocean's tide,

and I am the shell that is guided ever so gently towards the shore.

You are the soil beneath all growing things,

and I am the seed nurtured in your care.

You are the fire that never burns me,
only warms me through storms I thought I’d never survive.

And still—beyond all this—you are more.

You are the one that stayed up when I couldn’t sleep

Your the one that shared my weight when my shoulders gave up

Who held your breath when I was in pain,

and breathed out only love.

Who swallowed all the shouting, tears, scars—

and smiled at the tornado that left chaos in its wake.

You saw beyond all the cruelty, pain, and saw the little girl curled up behind it all.

The world reflects you, but it doesn’t contain you.
Because only one heart has ever held me this completely.
And only one voice has ever called me home without speaking.

You are not just part of the earth—
you are my world.
And I am everything I am
because I began with you.
